The Brain

Every second the Brain receives far more information than we could ever consciously process.
Sounds, colours, movements, memories, emotions, smells, notions, feelings.
Thousands of signals hit our senses at every moment. If we had to analyse them all, we would freeze. Or go crazy.
So the Brain does something remarkable: it sorts, filters, and prioritises.
In essence it decides what deserves our attention and what can remain in the background.
And what the Brain selects is rarely random.
It is strongly influenced by what we have repeatedly focused on before. In other words:
The Brain learns what to show us. The Brain is not only recording our life.It is curating our reality.
This means that if we change what we repeatedly notice, we can gradually, as a matter of fact quite quickly, change what our Brain highlights for us.
Some researchers estimate that we make tens of thousands of decisions every day.
Yet, most of them never reach our awareness.
They simply run in the background. Quietly, efficiently, automatically.
Once the brain has decided that something matters, it will start showing it to us everywhere.
A simple example:
You rarely see a red car on the road… until the day you buy one.
Have you ever noticed that the moment you buy a red car suddenly they seem to be quite literally everywhere?
- At the traffic lights.
- In parking lots.
- Passing you on the motorway.
For sure, the number of red cars did not increase overnight.
The Brain simply learned that they matter, thus it makes us notice capturing our attention.
Every experience, every emotion, every repeated thought leaves a small trace.
Over time those traces teach the Brain what deserves attention and what can safely remain in the background.
In other words, the Brain gradually learns what to highlight for us.
And once we understand this, something remarkable becomes clear.
*If the Brain can learn what to notice, it can also learn something new.*
